Wirral Burglary Gang Behind Bars At Last

A gang of six men from Wirral who targeted houses and businesses all over the UK have now been jailed, responsible for two house burglaries, 30 commercial break-ins and five theft from motor vehicle offences that were carried out between August and November last year.

According to the Chester Standard, business premises were specifically targeted with the intent of stealing cash from the safes on site, raiding restaurants, pubs, convenience stores, bus depots, dry cleaners and social clubs.

Ellesmere Port CID was able to link the gang to the burglaries by using CCTV, ANPR and mobile phone evidence, with raids taking place at the beginning of November last year during which phones, tools, clothing and other stolen property were seized.

Lead on the investigation Detective Sergeant Graeme Carvell was quoted by the news source as saying: “Over a three-month period the gang went to great lengths to plan and coordinate more than 30 burglaries at houses, pubs, restaurants, convenience stores and other businesses across the UK.

“They stole a car worth £13,000 during a house burglary. The group also stole more than £45,000 and caused in excess of £35,000 worth of damage to business premises. All of the businesses targeted provide essential services to local communities, and the burglaries have had a profound effect on the owners and their staff.”

It might be worth reading our recent blog post going into detail about how you can better protect your business against burglars and intruders.

The most traditional way is to install an alarm on the premises so you can be alerted if there’s an incident. These also have the added benefit of serving as a deterrent in the first place and are likely to help put people off from targeting your business.

While the nights are getting longer, it’s important to remember that winter isn’t quite done with us yet and this time of year is perfect for burglars because they can target sites under the cover of darkness… and there are a lot more hours of darkness right now than during the spring and summer months.

It’s always better to err on the side of caution and take as many steps as you feel is necessary to ensure the security of your home or business – and, as you can see from this recent news report, it’s certainly essential to introduce at least one form of security measure. You never know who’s out there and you never know who may have targeted your site.
